Board games now available for seniors to check out

Bess Getman, senior wellness coordinator and events manager at LLU Drayson Center, just wanted to provide a place for seniors to go on a hot summer day to cool off. She also hoped they would enjoy some board games, puzzles, and other table activities, as well as visit with fellow seniors.

People of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities are converging on Loma Linda University Drayson Center to play one of the up-and-coming sports sweeping the U.S.—pickleball.

Inland Empire youth participate in annual Clippers basketball camp

More than 60 young people ages 6-14 recently worked on their basketball skills with Coach Lamond Murray, former member of the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Clippers, and his coaching staff. The annual L.A. Clippers Youth Basketball Summer Camp took place July 31 to August 4 in Opsahl Gym.

Wholeness is a buzzword on the campuses that comprise Loma Linda University Health. The concept has been discussed by administrators, employees, and students. Committees have met and labored over ways to define it. Why? Because wholeness is what makes the entire organization different from other academic health care centers around the world.

Above: Yulduz Kuchkarova came to the United States from Uzbekistan for the sole purpose of training with swim coach Martin Gregoire to compete in the Olympics. She is now set to return to Uzbekistan to obtain a work visa and hopes to come back to Loma Linda in the near future to join Coach Gregoire's staff for the Piranha Swim Club.

Drayson Center badminton player wins silver twice at national games

Above: James Ho, a well-known face at Drayson Center, recently won silver medals in both singles and doubles at the U.S. National Senior Games.

Badminton is a popular sport at Drayson Center. A dedicated group of aficionados meets regularly in Opsahl Gym to test fitness and skill—and have great time in the process. Among them is a recent winner of two silver medals for his age group.

A number of unsung heroes keep the graduation ceremonies orderly and memorable.

Drayson Center hosts five graduations on Commencement Sunday

The second School of Allied Health Professions commencement, honoring physical and occupational therapy as well as orthotics and prostethics graduates, led the way with more than 3,000 in attendance.
