By Larry Kidder | A group in Drayson Center's Student Lounge listens as Hildemar Dos Santos, MD, DrPH, associate professor of public health and director of the Drayson Center Office for Preventive Care, puts some of the principles of heart health to music. The event, "Heart Health," took place on the morning of Wednesday, February 6. Don't miss upcoming free health presentations and screenings (see below for details).

There are simple life changes that people can make that will increase their heart health—and they don't require a trip to the pharmacy.

Hildemar Dos Santos, MD, DrPH, director of the Drayson Center Office for Preventive Care, explained some basic principles to his listeners at a free "Heart Health" seminar, held on Wednesday, February 6, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in Drayson Center's Student Lounge. The event was open to anyone interested in the topic.

In upcoming weeks, Dos Santos will hold a number of similar events, including two "Cancer Prevention" seminars to specifically address colon cancer prevention as well as preventing pancreatic cancer and other cancers. The "Colon Cancer Prevention" seminar will take place February 20 beginning at 12:00 noon. "Preventing Pancreatic Cancer & Other Cancers" will be held March 8, also beginning at 12:00 noon. Both will be in the Student Lounge.

In addition, Dos Santos has been joined by students from the LLU School of Public Health and School of Nursing for a "Health Expo" series. In addition to the February 4 expo which already took place, the students will be providing free health screenings on February 12, 20, 28, and March 8.

Free screenings will include: health and aging, blood pressure, body composition, PO2 assessment, waist and hip circumference, and stress assessment. Take advantage of these free assessments and support LLU students who are preparing for health care careers.
