By Larry Kidder | Drayson Center stands ready to open. We are looking forward to seeing and serving you as soon as we receive word to reopen.
Due to a local spike in COVID-19 cases, Loma Linda University administrators have chosen to keep Loma Linda University Drayson Center closed for at least another week and possibly longer. The decision to reopen will depend on a flattening of the cases, as well as the state and county recommendations for exercise and recreation facilities.
However, once the word is given to go forward with reopening, Drayson Center staff members have already received the mandated training so that the facility can open quickly. Your knowledge of the following information will help you quickly adapt to our modified environment. A required Reopening Strategy statement will be posted online the minute we have received official word to reopen.
In preparation for your return, there are some important facts that you, as members, will want to keep in mind. These new guidelines are temporary and subject to change and, as restrictions are lifted state- and county-wide, we will follow suit in a safe manner. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
Our new hours, for the time being, will be: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Each day, during the hours of 10:00–11:00 a.m. and 3:00–4:00 p.m., the entire facility will close for intense cleaning, in addition to the regular wiping down of surfaces and community contact points that will take place while you are here. You will need to leave the facility during these times.
Members will be required to go online at myllu.edu and reserve a two-hour slot. This will allow us to limit the number of people in the building at a given moment, as well as facilitate physical distancing. We ask that you avoid congregating or using waiting areas, which are not available. In addition, members under the age of 18 are not able to use the facility at this time.
Reservations can be made up to 24 hours in advance, beginning the day before we reopen. The two-hour slots overlap as the following example indicates: 6:00–8:00 a.m., 7:00–9:00 a.m., 8:00–10:00 a.m. etc. This will be the only way to access the facility.
You will need to bring with you:
- Workout or swim towel (none are available at Drayson Center)
- Water bottle (standard drinking fountains are not available, though you will be able to refill your water bottle)
- Personal sports equipment (Drayson Center is not checking out any equipment)
- A face covering (required for entrance)
Please do not bring:

When you arrive, be wearing your mask as you enter. Drayson Center staff will meet you and check you in, including a temperature check. You may not enter with a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or above and will likely receive further evaluation.
In place of the usual screening questions, you will be required to certify with your signature online that you are COVID-19 symptom-free, as well as release Loma Linda University Health from any liability relating to your visit to the campus.
COVID-19 symptoms include:
- Fever or chills
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Sore throat
- Muscle or body aches
- New loss of taste and/or smell
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
Please be assured that Drayson Center staff members will be practicing a number of stringent protocols—both to protect you, our members, and themselves. They will also be tasked with monitoring compliance with all guidelines throughout the facility.
We will need your help. Please frequently wash your hands thoroughly (at least 20 seconds with soap and water), particularly before and after touching your eyes, nose, mouth, or your face mask. Hand sanitizer dispensers are located throughout the facility, and we ask you to utilize them. Equipment wipes will be provided for you to clean before and after use.
We hope to share this journey with you in the near future. Please watch for announcements on our website and via social media.
