By Larry Kidder | Above: LLUH students and staff work out in a makeshift outdoor gym on the turf field.
Since the Loma Linda University Drayson Center reopened on Wednesday, Oct. 21, some LLUH students and staff have faithfully continued working out in the pool as well as on the turf field. Tennis and pickleball have also continued.
Due to significantly limited capacity, facility reservations are only open for current students, faculty, and staff of Loma Linda University Health as well as their spouses. All other memberships are on hold. As COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, due to improving numbers, we will expand our capacity as allowed.
When we reopen for the rest of our membership, we will calculate the balance owed members, based on our closure on Friday, March 20, 2020. Regular members will be notified as soon as we reopen for everyone.
Hours of operation
The hours of operation at this time are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday—Thursday, Fridays 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and CLOSED Saturdays and Sundays.
Reservations
LLUH members are required to register for a time slot to utilize the facility.
Reservations are for 90 minutes and for one specific area (example: pool, tennis courts, etc.). Only outdoor facilities are available at this time. Members are asked to leave the facility by the end of their time frame in order for Drayson Center staff to sanitize and prepare for the next group.
Reservations can be made here using your Loma Linda credentials up to two days prior to the reservation time and up to one hour before the start of the reservation. Group X reservations are open up to seven days in advance.
Since all activities are outdoors, the weather will also play a role. On days where the threat of poor weather may close all or part of the facility, please call 909-558-4975 to verify that areas are open and/or activities are taking place.
The following areas are available for reservations:
- Lap pool
- Beach volleyball
- Tennis courts
- Pickleball courts
- Outdoor track
- Cardio and weight-training equipment on the turf field (select cardio equipment included are ellipticals, stair steppers, recumbent, and spin bikes)
Check-in
Check-in takes place outdoors at the Superfield entrance gate, just east of the pool off of Shepardson. It is recommended that members park at the Superfield parking lot.
Upon arrival at the facility, members will need to complete the LLUH health screening. Members are requested to arrive no sooner than five minutes before their reservation time.
LLUH members are asked to please bring their LLUH ID badge or photo ID, as well as their own water bottles, towels, and any equipment they will need for their activity. Limited items will be available for check-out.
Locker rooms
LLUH students, staff, and spouses will need to come dressed for their activity, since locker rooms and showers ARE NOT available.
Additional information
Members are asked to practice social distancing, stand at least six feet apart, and wear a mask at all times except when in the pool.
Reservations may be canceled up to an hour before the reserved time. If a member fails to cancel or show up for a reservation for two appointments within a 30-day period, his or her ability to make reservations will be suspended for up to 30 days.
Drayson Center's Opsahl Gym has been transformed into a major COVID-19 vaccination clinic, serving as many as 2,000 county residents per day. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we do our part to help our community return to something closer to normal.
COVID-19 statistics are quickly improving for San Bernardino County residents. Drayson Center staff look forward to welcoming back our regular members once we receive word from Loma Linda University Health administrators and San Bernardino County officials.
